Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

Rant Time:

I've run in with the forum moderators before, but this really winds me up. I searched on Google for "java open browser", to remind myself which API to call to open the default browser, and the number one search result was this:

    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=679673

The answer is at the bottom of the page. Perfect. But then Darryl Burke comes along and locks the thread, because he reckons this latest posting is useless. Sorry, but Sun Forum Moderators don't get the concept of how forums are searched and used! They once told me they lock the threads because they want you to post new threads.  I don't have the time to make a new thread asking a question every time I can't solve something, and then wait and hope someone with the answer comes along over the next few days - I want to search for it ,and find the answer immediately. If they keep locking threads, you end up with hundereds of old locked threads which don't help anyone. What their vision is doing, is simply destroying the internet!

Idiots! And that is one reason I don't post to their forums anymore - they are the losers, not me.

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

I so much agree with this! There is a thread about topic A. Nobody posted in that topic for 3 months. Then some new insight is gained, and a completely valid, on-topic and helpful reply is posted. Guess what? The topic is immediately closed and the poster is told not to post in 'old' topics! :( Instead, a new thread should be opened. But for what? Only to scatter information that belongs together in one thread... Crazy!

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

dude just use stackoverflow.com !!!

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

Forget about those forums, try stackoverflow.com, that's where the devs are now ;-)

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

Why Google didnt buy Sun and get Java. Google have vision, Oracle sucks maybe was better IBM.

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

I couldn't agree more, I think Google would have been absolutely perfect as a buyer of Sun. Similar corporate cultures and Google constantly innovates. Oracle has more of a typical corporate culture than a creative innovative atmasphere.

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

Sack them off and give stackoverflow.com a try

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

hahaha the forums are very helpful many time but totally agree that locking SUCKS and should be done only for spam threads etc. but the problem here is something else. the problem is that the forum is not managed as it should be. For example if I create a thread even 5 years ago if someone post a message on this thread I should receive an email this is not happening (it should be like in stackoverflow). Even if I post a answer I should receive a mail if new answer has been posted but anyway. If this features exists in the forum then the moderators and everyone will not bother how old is the post. it sounds like .. lets lock this post to wash our hands instead of fixing the issue

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

I absolutely agree with you

Re: Oracles Sun Forums Are Crap

I too used to get very angry at how swift they are at closing message threads. Since I discovered stackoverflow.com I hardly use Sun forum any more.
